Daydreams and Detours is a joint exhibition by Catherine Neil and Livonne Larkins, two artists connected by their strong ties to Canberra. Catherine is based in Melbourne, while Livonne splits her time between the Blue Mountains and Canberra.
Working in different mediums, both artists blur the lines of reality to infuse a sense of whimsy into their work, aiming to bring joy to both themselves and the viewer. Through vibrant landscapes and narrative elements, their storybook aesthetic appeals to adults and children alike.
While presenting distinct subjects, both artists invite viewers to look closer and uncover hidden sub-plots. Cate's acrylic paintings feature seemingly simple landscapes that reveal complex colors, rich textures, and detailed layers upon closer inspection. Livonne's realistic photographs hide subtle "easter eggs" that take viewers on a journey, raising more questions than answers. Together, they offer a colorful exploration of the stories encountered while meandering through life.
