About this event

An exhibition by Josie Cosgrove

Ginninderra Creek has been a constant presence in Josie Cosgrove's life. She grew up just metres from its edge, in a home backing onto a reserve. Her childhood unfolded in its rhythms, wandering among willows, paddling in ponds, and cycling the winding paths. Now living nearby with her own family, she returns often, sharing this connection as they watch birds and insects, learn the shapes of trees, and trace ripples across the water.

This body of work centres on eco printing as both process and translation of place. Using botanicals gathered along the creek, Cosgrove imprints their pigments, textures, and forms onto fabric and paper. Each piece becomes a direct translation of place, shaped by season, weather, and chance. The resulting textiles move gently with air and light, echoing the shifting atmosphere of the landscape.

Where the Light Dances draws on the Ngunnawal meaning of "Ginninderra": sparkling, throwing out little rays of light. It acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of this region and honours the enduring presence of the creek within the landscape.
